|
|
| Descripción: Chandelier of the sacrifice . Late- Roman- period oil lamp. Decoration of six-tips stars and heart-shaped hearts and leaves surrounding the disk. A male carácter, front and standing, holds a lamb with his left hand and a bird, probable the dove for the sacrifice, in his right hand. The old mosaic law demanded the ritual sacrifice of a lamb and a dove during the presentation of the children in the temple, forty days alter they were born, from where the Christianism picked up the sacrificial sense of both offerings, symbols of innocence. Centuries IV. V. after death. |
